Are you compliant with the new OSHA Crane Standard?

Since the way OSHA calculates penalties changed earlier this year, the average OSHA penalty for a serious violation in North Carolina is close to $1,000.  The penalty increases from $1,000 to $4,000 if the penalty is issued by Federal OSHA.  The bottom line, it pays even more now to be in compliance with the OSHA standards.

Major changes to the OSHA Crane Standard (1926.1400) went into effect on November 8, 2010.  Are you in compliance with the new Crane Standard?

The North Carolina crane standard, which was effective October 1, 2009 was rescinded on that Nov. 8and NC will adopt the Federal standard verbatim.

What it means for you.

The most important change to be aware of is any employee who operates a crane covered under the new Federal standard must be Crane Operator certified by Novenber 8, 2014.  Under the NC standard, operators had to be certified by Oct 1, 2011, but now with the changes to the Federal standard, employers now have an extra 3 years to get their operators certified.
