Margaree Walston, CISR
Personal Insurance Account Manager
RALEIGH – As the mother of an active and inquisitive 3-year-old son, Margaree Walston understands that her actions can speak louder to him than her words. It’s why she was determined to complete the academic requirements for her college degree.
Walston achieved her goal May 3 when she received her bachelor’s of science degree in business administration from North Carolina Wesleyan College.
“You know, with a 3 year old, you can’t preach something if you don’t do yourself,” Walston said. “I can’t tell him education is important if it isn’t a priority for me.”
Walston credits her ability to complete her degree – in addition to working full time and parenting Noah – to having a supportive husband, Clayton, as well as a supportive employer.
Indeed, continuing professional development is a hallmark of employment at TriSure, said Linda Folger, a founding partner.
At TriSure, employees aren’t just encouraged to learn, they’re paid to learn. TriSure pays all educational expenses for insurance-related classes and credentials. The firm also offers bonuses when employees reach key milestones within their educational pursuits, and salary increases after degrees or credentials are obtained. Walston received a bonus for earning her college degree.
“Having knowledgeable employees who desire to grow in their fields of expertise can only help TriSure and our clients,” said Folger. “We’ve always supported continuing education and professional development because we recognize that our investment more than pays off down the road.”
Walston said TriSure’s professional development philosophy was a key factor in her decision to join the firm in June 2006. At the time, Walston was weighing three job offers. She said that TriSure was the only employer of the three that seemed interested in her educational plans.
“They weren’t just interested, they were enthusiastic, which decided it for me,” she said. “They have been extremely supportive of me, and I feel very fortunate to be here.”
Walston, a native of Lincolnton, is a personal lines account manager at TriSure and holds a Certified Insurance Service Representative (CISR) designation.
