RALEIGH – At an enormous conference table laden with boxes, paper, scissors and tape, Santa’s elves worked feverishly at TriSure on Thursday, wrapping hundreds of presents purchased for needy children.
For several years now, TriSure has remembered its clients during the holidays by purchasing gifts in their honor for children in Wake County’s Guardian ad Litem program, rather than sending traditional corporate gifts. The company estimates its investment this year will top $5,000. On Thursday, a dozen–plus employees helped sort, box, wrap and label hundreds of presents.
“Shopping for the children’s presents and then getting together to wrap them is something we look forward to all year,” said Linda Folger, a partner at TriSure. “The children in the Guardian ad Litem program face very difficult life circumstances – such as poverty, abuse, neglect and homelessness. By providing them with clothes, toys, school supplies and toiletries, TriSure hopes to better their circumstances and send the message that we believe they’re important.”
One TriSure employee told her colleagues she purchased electric blankets after learning that the two children she “adopted” lived in a home with no heat.
Wake County’s Guardian ad Litem program seeks to serve the best interests of children involved in the court system, often because they’ve been abused or neglected. The program provides trained advocates who work to ensure that children remain safe and have safe, permanent homes. Each year at Christmas, the Friends of the Guardian ad Litem sponsors a gift drive to ensure that these same children are not forgotten. Last year, the effort served 800 children.
“For many families, this effort changes their lives,” said Susan C. Newell, gifting chair. “For many it’s not just the actual gifts, it is the hope behind those gifts that means the most.”
Friends of the Guardian ad Litem needs additional sponsors for this year’s Christmas effort. Gifts are tax deductible. To learn more, call 919-414-0855 or email snewell_law@yahoo.com
